Inspirations from Global EWP campaign: Cater support from Nepalese medical professionals

End Water Poverty Global Campaign has received support from European doctors to spread the pledge of increased commitment to combat global sanitation crisis on World Toilet Day 2009. These inspirational support from the doctors ignited the idea of approaching medical communities in Nepal. There was a hurray moment for all of us when Nepal Health Association (NEPHA) circulated World Toilet Day messages to all NEPHA members (~1,000 members) in Nepal and Public Appeal to all.

The appeal emphasized that toilet is basic requirement for ensuring dignified lives and minimizing number of deaths from these sanitation deprivations including annual death of 10,500 children below 5 years of age. It appreciated increasing support from medical leaders across Europe as investment in safe sanitation is one of the most important actions in slashing child mortality rates allowing our economies to prosper. It requested support in raising voices for ensuring basic toilet access to all and celebrate World Toilet Day to raise awareness for tackling this moral crisis so that no child die because they are denied their most basic of rights.

Good linkage of WaterAid Nepal team member Mr. Om Prasad Gautam has helped in getting linkage with the medical professionals. The support from Ms. Anita Pradhan in preparing information package was also noteworthy.
