Recognizng commitment of Mr. Umakant Jha, Secretary, Ministry of Physical Planning & Works (MPPW)


Campaigners can also appreciate sincere efforts shown towards combating development challenges. The handing over of appreciation letter to Mr. Umakant Jha, Secretary, Ministry of Physical Planning Works (MPPW), Nepal jointly by End Water Poverty (EWP) and WaterAid Nepal is an exemplary effort of recognizing his commitment towards ensuring water and sanitation as constitutional right. Mr. Sanjay Adhikary, Country Representative, WaterAid Nepal handed over the appreciation letter to the secretary on June 19,2009. EWP campaigners together Mr. Suman Sharma, Joint Secretary, MPPW; and Mr. Han, Regional Advisor, WHO were present in the meeting.


Mr. Umakant Jha had strongly urged for establishing water and sanitation as constitutional right in an inauguration program of National Sanitation Action Week organized on 5 June 2009. He shared that these appreciations would be motivational for engrossing more energy in the sector. He suggested that Rainwater harvesting workshop can be tapped as an opportunity for sharing these agenda of water and sanitation as constitutional right. He also opined that consultative interactions with selected parliamentarians could be organized to discuss the agenda of ensuring water and sanitation as constitutional right to develop common understanding among the CA members.
