Meeting with Honorable Binda Pandey, Chairperson, Fundamental Right & Guiding Principle Committee

WASH chapter in Nepal coordinated a meeting with Honorable Binda Pandey, Chairperson, Fundamental Right & Guiding Principle Committee, Constituent Assembly Committee on July 2, 2009. The lobbying interaction handed over the appeal letter signed jointly by WASH, FAN and EWP Nepal chapters demanding establishment of water and sanitation as constitutional right.

The chairperson was positive and concerned about the right of water. She expressed that these aspirations of the people will be included in the constitution. The campaigners were showering facts and reasons for demanding separate right for sanitation and water. It was expected that the meeting would help in bringing the focus of sanitation in the minds of policy makers.

The chairperson also shared that the draft content will be shared after a month and Civil Society can provide direct written recommendations to CA to meet the concerns of the society. It indicated need for alertness as well as joint initiatives of different campaign for ensuring concerns of sanitation and water in the constitution of the country.
